The manual says “it is forbidden to install the solar panel in the shade of buildings or trees.” I’m going to guess “forbidden” means, “not advised.”
The panels of these lights are made of glass, which I like quite a lot. It gives them heft. There are 6 hollow tubes inside the box, but no obvious spikes. Fiddle with a tube for a few moments and you’ll realize that the spikes are inside the tubes. The spikes best fit into the tube in the side in which they came.
The other side of the tube fits into the bottom of the lights. Despite there being a little, square-ish design inside each of the lights, which makes you think the tube will snap in to it, it doesn’t. The tubes fit into the bottom of the lights by force. Just like the spikes.
Then, there’s the instruction: ‘Turn the switch at the bottom of the light from “OFF” TO “FADE” or “ON.”’ I do not know what that means or how it affects the function of the lights. But never mind that, I couldn’t find any switch anywhere on the lamp. I started twisting and turning it, almost until I thought I’d break it. But instead, the glass part of the lamp came loose from the solar panel top. Inside the top/lid of the lamp, there is a little switch which toggles between “ON,” “OFF,” and “FADE.” What these choices mean, I will discover after the solar panels charge.
(There’s a film over the solar panel on top of the lights, which seems to me should be removed, but there’s no mention of it in the instructions. I have removed them.)
After one day of charging the solar panels — when the sun was out, but weak — the lamps did light, but their light was feeble. (The phone I used to take the photos compensated for the lights’ dimness, so the pics look way brighter than the lamps actually were.) So I moved them to an area where I know the sun will shine brightly on them all day, assuming the sun shines.
However, when you move the lamps to another location, the spikes will remain buried in the dirt. It happened to me with 5 out of the 6 spikes. Because they don’t fit tightly into the tubes, and because I buried the spikes fairly well into the ground, it was very difficult to dig them up and insert them back into the tube.
“FADE” means the multi-color lights will fade in and out. “ON” is white light.
